1880 Town Adventure

A spur-of-the-moment adventure, along I-90 in South Dakota, was a stop at 1880 Town.

A cute school house

An old fire truck

Inside a two room house...the largest house we saw there. There was also a bedroom.

An old Presbyterian church

It was so fun walking around the town, imagining what it would have been like to live in a time like that. There was a house and barn just a ways out of town that we walked to. We talked about what it would be like to walk into town each day for supplies, to church each Sunday, etc. There were some of the tiniest buildings that were homes for people. A one room house for a family with a baby. The "grocery" store especially reminded us of Little House on The Prairie (by the way, FYI, the home of Mary Ingalls Wilder is in South Dakota...it was just too far off the interstate for us to have time to drive to).

So, if you're ever in South Dakota, traveling on I-90 and want a little 1800's experience it's a good stop to make.

A Lot of Changes

We're in the middle of a lot of changes over here in our neck of the woods (which keeps changing locations actually). After all, life's an adventure right? Well, at least our blog is about our family adventures. You'd think with how infrequently I post we're running low on adventures. No, we're full of adventures here...I just don't write about them as often as I should, or would like to.

Unfortunately, the church plant for which Brad was hired after seminary ended in April. We learned a lot through the whole two year process...from beginning to end. We had some great experiences and made some special friends, to whom we were sad to say goodbye. We trust the Lord and His sovereignty. We trust He knew all along that things were going to unfold the way they did. We trust that His plans for us are for our good and His glory.

Therefore, even though life for us in Louisiana ended without a clue as to what our future would be, we walked away in faith knowing God had good plans for us.

We're still walking in faith, as we've traveled around visiting family while we wait for what our future is. We spent June and half of July in Colorado visiting my family, staying in Paonia and Grand Junction. We moved on to San Jose, California to be with Brad's family and will be here until mid September. We plan to (though one lesson we've learned this summer is that we should hold on to our plans very lightly, as things can change quickly and we have to just-go-with-the-flow) head back to Colorado on our way to (at another location) hopefully finalize details for a pastoral position for Brad (more details to follow when things are more in place).

God has been very gracious to us, sustaining us through this waiting period. We are thankful for time with family who we normally don't get to see often. We enjoyed a family reunion over the July 4th weekend with my mom's side of the family, and were awed by a drive through Yosemite National Park on our way to Brad's parents.

I'll post more about all of our summer adventures soon!

Here are some pictures from before we moved:
