A Season Late

Now that it's nearing Christmas I thought I'd finally do a post I've been wanting to share for a while. I haven't been posting much lately, mostly because we upgraded to the new Windows 7 and it no longer has the picture program that their previous program had. That means no editing capabilities; no red eye reduction, cropping, etc... I was highly disappointed. It's taken me a while to get the hang of the program that exists on our computer. As can be common with any change I suppose, I resisted even trying to figure it out for a while. Once I came to grips with the reality of the only option being to use this other program, I got to work (with much help from Brad) and am now mostly familiar with its functions.

Fall is my favorite season. Fall in the south is very different from fall in the west. We do get intermittent days of cooler weather and some changing colors, but it's mostly still fairly warm and much later in the year that the leaves change. I can only dream of the cool, crisp air of a Colorado fall. So, once again aiming to come to grips with my reality, I decided to find some fun fall crafty things we could do.

I found the perfect project on creativeKismet. The kids and I had a great time!

Get some brown paper bags...we used the lunch size bags...and open them up to lay flat.

Give them to the kids and let them have lots of fun doing something that normally would be considered somewhat destructive (especially when the object is big sister's school work as in the previous post) and crumple them up.

Use fall-like colored paints and different size brushes and sponges to paint all over the flattened crumpled bag.

Find templates for leaves and cut out leaf shapes, wrap and glue the stems over some ribbon, rope or twine...

and hang! I copied the idea from the website I found the project on, and hung them from the curtain rods in the living room.

The project was fun and fairly easy and we all enjoyed the finished "product." Of course, now all the fall decorations are replaced by the Christmas decorations of which I will be taking pictures and posting soon, but I figured "better late than never" applied to blog posts.
