Another item for this week...Hurricane Gustav...

This weekend we've been preparing for Gustav. How?

1) Going to the bank to get cash out (praise the Lord we have $$ to get cash out!).
2) Filling up cars with gas (lines were already at the gas station and pumps were slow).
3) Going to the store for candles, nonperishable food, batteries (which were almost gone and twice the normal price), ice, water, etc.
4) Trying not to panic at the crowds and already empty shelves

We moved here just two weeks before Hurricane Katrina hit. We were here for the storm, but left afterwards because the power was going to be out for so long. It was out for over a week, and going off periodically for a while after that. It looks like Gustav is going to hit a little less here, but we're preparing to have power out, hopefully not for too long. You can tell everyone doesn't want to be unprepared like with Katrina, which is smart.

We'll keep our eyes on the weather channel for as long as we can, and pray for the Lord's faithfulness to wash peace over His people.

Busy but successful week!

Well, lots is going on. We've had our first week back to school...for both Brad and Mackenzie. And Cam is doing 'school' too. I have a couple preschool workbooks and have printed off some alphabet coloring sheets for him each day, as well as tracing sheets of shapes. He loves it! Mackenzie did very well this week. She got all her school work done and had a good attitude! Brad's teaching her Math and Latin, which helps me out a lot, and is very enjoyable for Mackenzie I'm sure! We're all learning the Latin though. We do it right after breakfast. Even Cam likes repeating the vocab words. Brad is enjoying his classes so far. And he just got a second job at Seattle Drip, a local "coffee shop," so he'll be able to pay for this last year of seminary! I'm co-coordinator for the seminary's Mrs. In Ministry Retreat this year and we're (our committee) busy making plans for that. Oh, Mackenzie started piano lessons back up this week too! Oh, and Cam's decided to use the potty! Whew...no wonder I feel so tired!

More of Cam's Photography

This one is looking through the dining room
chair accross the table and out the window.

So fun!

Cam's Photography

Cam got a hold of my camera and started clickin' away. Some of them turned out to be not so bad. And we get a glimpse into what the world looks like from his view...

Back home

We were house/dog sitting for some friends for two and a half weeks. It was so great to be in a house...with a great back yard...trampoline...spacious kitchen, bathrooms and bedrooms...everything on one level. Coming back home Thursday evening was a little bit of a shock to the system. We do like our home and are so grateful for the town homes that are the housing for the seminary. (It could be tiny shoebox apartments that they have for their housing) It's just taking a little while to readjust. We are closer to all our friends again! And we'll finally get to meet our new neighbors who moved in and see new families still to arrive before classes start. Mackenzie's still hoping for a girl her age to move in. We'll see... for now, I should go snap some pictures so I can post more for you all to see...

I can't believe it's August!

Where has the summer gone? Well, here in Mississippi the summer heat's not going anywhere for quite some time. But, school is starting next week here. Crazy. Brad doesn't actually start back at the seminary until the 2oth. And a benefit of home schooling is that we don't have to start back until then either. Her Thursday enrichment school starts on the 14th though.

Well, it will be good to get back into more of a routine. Even though I would love for every day to be like a Saturday and lazily wake up, and spend the day doing whatever sounds good at the time, (I don't know the last time I had a Saturday like that, but wouldn't it be nice!) we all do better with somewhat of a predictable routine...even me.

I have a couple weeks then to get all geared up to start my routine off with a bang! I'll be making my first (of many) schedule of the school year soon and trying to break it down into attainable tasks...for each of us. Cam's not too excited about chores. Either is the 9 year old who has 5 chores compared to Cam's one "chore," which is using the dust-buster in the dining room. Hopefully Cam will like his time (15, 10, 5, however many minutes I can get out of him) sitting at the "school table" with us.

I'm actually getting excited about it all. The routine, the new school books for Mackenzie, Cam learning more about colors, shapes, numbers, etc. It will be a busy year! Glad I have two weeks to prepare =}
